History

Central Diesel is an industry leader in innovation and customer service, with a proud history of design, maintenance and manufacture of world-class diesel componentry.

We are a company that can boast an extensive and impressive range of clients from many industries including mining, transport, agricultural, construction, government, defence and marine.

In 1985, Brenton Matters and Brenton Roberts established R & M Diesel Maintenance based on their extensive trade and industry knowledge. By providing quality work with a customer focus and the ability to recognise opportunity, the company has grown into a multi-million dollar enterprise with over 70 employees.

The need to value-add to an imported engine brand, saw the development of the first prototypes of our generating set and pump range. A working relationship between Kleenheat Gas, Deutz and Central Diesel created the opportunity to research and develop the use of gas engines for power generation.

In 2005, Santos awarded us preferred supplier as testament to our achievements in service and innovation.

To meet the needs of the fast growing mining industry of the region, Central Diesel opened a service branch at Roma, Queensland in 2008 with plans for further expansions into other key areas in the near future.

As a further indication of the strength and prospects of the company, a consortium of investors purchased Central Diesel from Matters and Roberts – both of whom still work with the company they founded.

Within months, the new owners faced one of their greatest challenges when a major fire at a neighbouring pallet store caused serious damage to the Central Diesel workshops. Seizing the opportunity, they recognised this as a turning point in the development of the business.

The upheaval led to the establishment of new premises and changes in administration, process, branding, focus and capabilities – all designed to open Central Diesel up to new industries and new technologies without losing the attention to quality and innovation that has made the company one of Australia’s most trusted supplier of power delivery components and solutions.
